Rafting on the Tay

We run the Tay every day except Saturdays during the Tummel season (June-mid September).  The river Tay is grades 1-3, it can be relatively mild to big and burly depending on the water levels on the day.  The first half of the trip is the calmer half so we play lots of games to get you all nice and wet before we hit the rapids.

After the first rapid 'church pool' they get progressively bigger as the trip goes on. Shortly after the first rapid we sometimes have the opportunity to try and get a surf in a recirculating bit of water called a 'hole' for a nice gentle thrashing.

4th Rapid

We finish the trip off at the main section of rapids in Grandtully, which is also home to one of the most popular the UK white water slalom spots.  There we have 3 consecutive rapids and then the big surf spot '4th.'

The Tay begins its course in the village of Kenmore where it flows out of Loch Tay. In fact there are several tributaries which run into the loch, but they have different names (Rivers Fillan, Dochart and Lochay). The river is already quite large by our standards.

Rafting on the Tay

It has a typical flow in excess of 100 cubic meters per second in Kenmore. By the time it reaches Perth the River Tay has the higest flow of any river in the UK. The stretch we run is the Aberfeldy-Grandtully run and is six miles long, culminating in a descent of the national white water slalom section at Grandtully.

What our Customers Say

Thank you all for for a great day on the Tay. The staff were all great fun, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. Thanks to Dee, Jack and Calum for their great instruction. The pictures are all excellent (if a little unflattering!) and captured the spirit of the trip. We will definately be back next year to try the Tummel. So look out
Thanks again.
