What is it?

It can be hard to explain the attraction of canyons to someone who has never been canyoning, "deep", "dark" and "primeval" are words that come to mind. A descent of a river, stream or burn using ropes for lowered descents, plunge pools and natural rock flumes.

This a great adventure and we are sure you'll come back to try other canyons!

There are a few different canyoning sites that we go to. The site we visit on the day will depend on the water levels and the group. The heights of the jumps vary depending on the site and go up to just under 40foot. We also do a 65foot lower down a waterfall in the full day trip.

Falls of Bruar

Bottom section, half-day

This canyon encompasses some nice jumps with a beautifil journey down the gorge

We make our way up the side of the canyon with a lovely walk through the woods overlooking the gorge to our entry point. To start the session we have a nice jump into a beautiful plunge pool, and then make our way down through the gorge using assited lowers, jumps, natural slides and gravity.

Ultimate Canyoning Day - top and bottom sections of falls of Bruar, full-day

Starting with a nice walk up to the top of the canyon section. Loads of jumps, lowers and slides to get us down to the bottom with a little snack break along the way. The pias de resistence is the abseil lower down a beautiful 65foot waterfall. Here you finish the lower in a big room behind the wall of water from the falls.

Calvine

This is a nice open canyon with the jumps and floating sections well defined so if you prefer one or the other this is probably the site for you. We make our way down a nice open gorge swimming, scrambling and floating, enjoying the scenery along the way. There's some natural water flumes, a slab where we set up a slide and a plunge jacuzzi pool... then onto the jumping section.

Killicrankie

In Killicrankie all the jumps are based around one calm section of river. We start with some smaller jumps and make our way up and around the gorge to different types of jumps.

Take on the top jump if you dare. At nearly 40 foot this is sure to get your juices going. The jump is off a pedastle type rock platform, where the scenery falls all around you.

What our Customers Say

Just wanted to let you guys know what a wonderful day we all had yesterday. We received a professionally organised day guided by your staff. We would like to convey a special thanks to both Jez and Al who accompanied us through the canyon, even the bravest of our group felt buoyed by their support and spirit. They both showed amazing people skills, I can qualify this as I was the sole coward of the group and required extra support and attention which they gave without hesitation.

We will be back, maybe as a group, but definately individually.
Kind Regards
Aileen Kirk
