THE RIVER ORCHY
The River Orchy Very much a weather dependant river. The river Orchy comes up and down very quickly. When it is up it is the most exciting rafting trip commercially run in Britain. This is a full day trip and definitely not for the faint hearted. In the event of the river not running an alternative will be used.
ABOUT THE RIVER
The place known as Bridge of Orchy is - well almost literally a bridge, except for a few small houses scattered around it and a Scottish highland hotel. Mention of the hotel is quite apt as the main reason for the hamlet was a stopping place for travellers. Bridge of Orchy is also popular for two other reasons. One is the use of the River Orchy here by canoeists and white water rafters, the other significant attraction is the climb of the dominant summits of Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh, which guard this small hamlet.
Thank you all for for a great day on the Tay. The staff were all great fun, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. Thanks to Dee, Jack and Calum for their great instruction. The pictures are all excellent (if a little unflattering!) and captured the spirit of the trip. We will definately be back next year to try the Tummel. So look out For my part I would like to thank, most sincerely, Andy, my 'mentor', up on the gantry who realised my absolute fear of heights and who gave me space, time and lots of calm encourangement before I finally 'let go'. No rush, no come on you're holding everyone up, but a 'when you're ready... take your time to get it together' kind of attitude. It was also kind of him to shout encourangement as I decended. I make no bones about it, I was terrified, but with Andy's encouragement I made it. Please pass my deap gratitude on to this kind man - I'm sure he will remember me for all the wrong reasons. Thank you to all your team for making it happen and for all the fabulous contributions you helped raise for all the good causes. My son in law had a stroke in January and is now making a recovery to near normality, the treatment he received is in part I'm sure due to your good works, thank you.
