Steve Thomas has worked in the outdoor industry since 1983, during which time he has served in the military, in commando forces, managed one of Scotlands largest outdoor centre and then, in 1995, opened the doors of the Freespirits Outdoor Company for everyone and anyone to come and share in his brand of adventure.
Freespirits is Scotlands longest running outdoor company specialising in white water rafting and a variety of other activities and is, quite simply, the UKs leading and premier outdoor activity provider.
Steve’s ethos has always been the same, which is surround yourself with excellence and you will not go far wrong, which is exactly what he has done with his team. It is also his belief that Freespirits is a family, and not just a place of work.
All trained and assessed by Steve, every member of the Freespirits family brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills to the table, which, coupled with a sense of humour and enthusiasm with no boundaries, makes for the finest instructors in the UK. Steve is the training officer for the Scottish Rafting Association and an Assessor for the International Rafting Federation, giving him the opportunity to ensure he has the best raft guides available. Some of the guides are full time, some part time, but all are part of the family.
The oldest guide of them all, Steve, has 35 years of experience taking people out on all activities. The old man of the Scottish outdoor scene. (But still the best!!)
JP brings a huge amount of international experience to the Freespirits family. Raft guide, canyoneer, abseiling and a huge amount of hair. Superb all round Instructor with a gentle and calming manner.
Scotty has been with us for 5 seasons now, having also gained experience in a variety of countries around the world during the Scottish winter months. Young, sharp, and very enthusiastic.
Has been with Freespirits for longer than either he or Steve can remember. The ultimate all year rounder, with rafting, canyoning and abseiling in the summer months and one of Scotlands most respected ski patrollers.
Scarily big yet surprisingly gentle, an expert white water rafting guide and also expert canyoneer of 5 seasons with Freespirits. Ian is not only a great Instructor, he is also good for lifting heavy weights.
Without a doubt, one of the Freespirits families most loyal members. Kamal is one of our most experienced guides, having guided in his homeland of Nepal, various places around the world and now with us here in Scotland.
Rosie has proved herself over the years to be one of Freespirits, and Scotland's, best female guides. Great with adults and kids alike, she has an amazing sense of humour and is always first to put people at ease. (Being Steve's daughter, she also has a job for life.)
